"Benjamin Silver offers a very traditional tar and roses nose on this solid wine, with extra aromas of leather, iron, pipe smoke, iodine and beef jerky. The palate shows white pepper, roasted fennel and tight pomegranate fruit, with some gaminess and tobacco leaf, as well as grippy tannins that will continue to soften with time. — M.K. 95% Nebbiolo, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon .
I started sourcing Nebbiolo from Rancho Don Miguel Vineyard in Los Alamos in 2000. At that point the vineyard was probably already 15 years old. It was planted from cuttings sourced in northern Italy by Joe Carrari, and had been recently bought by Louis Lucas.
General style of vintage: The 2010 wines are broadly structured, masculine in nature, & will age very well.
Aromas: Intense red licorice, rhubarb, cherry, and strawberry fruit
Body: The 2010 enters the mouth with silky smoothness and builds into a bright ball of unctuous red fruit before the trademark tannins appear and demonstrate why Nebbiolo ages so well, and pairs so well with your food!
